Black and White Reverse Processing Workshop

This workshop seeks to challenge and expand your understanding of what narrative is and can be. Drawing upon the rich history of the lanternist you will be invited to co-produce a series of photographic slides that will then be used to explore ideas around, and experiment with, visual storytelling. Split over the course of two days, you will take a hands-on approach in both shooting and developing the film alongside choreographing the slides to relay the narrative that informs the images. The workshop will culminate in a preview of these performances.

Participants are required to bring along items to contribute to the creation of their images, these could be (but aren't limited to) objects, fabric, printed materials, etc. All other materials and facilities will be provided. The workshop is limited to 12 participants.

Learner Level: Intermediate - Experienced

Intermediate - You have ample experience working in a Black and White Darkroom, can develop a roll of film (35mm, 120mm, 5x4”) and hand print photographs (on resin coated or fibre based paper) without guidance.

Experienced - You are confident and capable of working independently (unaided) in the black and white darkroom. You have copious experience developing film (35mm, 120mm, 4x5”) in both traditional and alternative ways, alongside a mastery of printing photographs (on both fibre based and resin coated paper) at a range of scales from 8x10 to 50x60”.
